When you're with a group of friends, trying to pick a place to eat is a frustrating, generally horrible experience. No one can make up their minds, and when someone finally does, you can almost guarantee that someone else is going to find a reason to shoot it down. Eater App for iOS and Android, though, plans to put that little problem to rest.
What does it do?
Shows you all of the Eater 38 and Eater Heatmap restaurants in your immediate vicinity using GPS. For the uninitiated, Eater's website gives you two sets of must-eat dining lists. The 38 are going to be your top 38 old standby restaurants that have proved themselves time and again to be the best in their class. The Heatmap, however, shows you the places that are bumpin' currently?the places to "see and be seen," if you will. Once you pick your poison, you'll be able to pull up phone numbers, hours, directions, etc. You'll also have access to Eater's own articles and stories about biggest food trends in your area.
Why do we like it?
Apps like Urbanspoon and Yelp are great, but there's only so much you can do to filter your options down to the absolute best. And even then you're just going off of the (occasionally questionable) opinions of the population at large. With Eater, depending on whether you want only the best or the (also very good) places all the kids these days are eating at, you'll know the options before you have been picked by someone with a little more knowhow. Eater App is also available for dozens of cities across the US, so chances are you're going to be taken care of. You can check their website for the full list.
